Council OKs 3 for Community Redevelopment Agency

The City Council on Friday unanimously approved three appointments to the Community Redevelopment Agency after winning a commitment from Mayor Richard Riordan’s office that one of three upcoming openings will be filled by a South-Central resident. The concession defused a months-long conflict over the geographical diversity of some city commissions.
Robin Kramer, Riordan’s chief of staff, said the mayor will also nominate someone from the San Fernando Valley after Bobbi Fiedler, the lone CRA commissioner from that part of the city, resigned Thursday. Two other CRA terms expire in November.
Joining the CRA are Christine Robert, Juanita Chavez and Mee Hae Lee. While praising the candidates’ qualifications, some council members have been critical that none live in South-Central, where an increasing number of CRA projects are located.
