WEEKEND TV : An All-Star Sunday for NBA and Movies
It’s another big weekend for TV movies, with not only ABC, CBS and NBC squaring off Sunday night but also PBS and Showtime. And sports fans will have the NBA All-Star game to savor.
The Sunday night movie choices:
* Richard Chamberlain reprises his role as Father Ralph de Bricassart in “The Thorn Birds: The Missing Years,” 9 p.m. (2).
* Adam Baldwin plays a firefighter in “In the Line of Duty: Smoke Jumpers,” 9 p.m. (4)(36).
* Joanna Kerns portrays a rape victim in “No One Could Protect Her,” 9 p.m. (7)(3)(42).
* Helen Mirren is back in another installment of the British crime drama “Prime Suspect,” on “Masterpiece Theatre,” 9 p.m. (28).
* “Cafe Society” is set at a New York nightclub in 1952, with Lara Flynn Boyle, 8 p.m. Showtime.
Also kicking off Sunday is a three-part “Nature” miniseries called “Alien Empire,” an in-depth look at the world’s insect population, from crickets in New Zealand to mayflies along the Mississippi River and termites in Africa. It airs Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. (28).
The NBA All-Star game takes place at 3 p.m. Sunday on (4)(36).
And many of the public service programs will focus on the Iowa caucus.
