Stop! In the Name of Law: Mary Wilson, a founding member of the Supremes, has sued four former members of the group and their managers, claiming they are violating Wilson’s exclusive right to use of the famed Motown group’s name. In the Los Angeles federal court suit, Wilson claims she helped form the Supremes in 1960 and has managed the group since 1974. She claims that former members Kaaren Ragland, Hollis Paysuer, Scherrie Payne and Lynda Laurence have used the trademark name “The Supremes” in booking, advertising and promotional materials. Wilson wants a judge to bar the defendants from using the name, and seeks an unspecified amount in profits and punitive damages.
