Candidates Meet High Expectations
* Recently I had the privilege of interviewing candidates for the 38th Assembly District for an organization to which I belong. Those interviewed included a Republican (Ross Hopkins), two Democrats (David Ross and Jon M. Lauritzen) and a Natural Law candidate (Virginia Neuman). I was most impressed by the quality of the people who have chosen to run. They gave thoughtful replies to our questions, although they didn’t always agree with our positions.
I may be naive, but my dilemma is not “choosing the lessor of evils” but realizing that only one can be elected. As a public, we find it so easy to disparage those who serve us, so we can be grateful that people of such a high caliber are willing to put themselves on the line.
