SAN CLEMENTE — A magnitude-3.1 aftershock rolled through San Clemente on Thursday, but there were no reports of damage or injuries.
The aftershock struck at 8:58 p.m. and was centered 28 miles south-southwest of the city, said seismologist Egill Hauksson of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
It was an aftershock to a magnitude-5.4 quake that struck in July 1986 in Oceanside, several miles south on the San Diego County coast.
The San Clemente branch of the Sheriff’s Department received no calls, a dispatcher said, and usually the “911 lines go berserk” after a tremor.
