San Fernando : County to Sue Over Courthouse Repairs
- Share via
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to file a lawsuit against a consortium of insurance companies that have refused to pay to help repair the earthquake-damaged San Fernando Courthouse.
The county has accused the insurance companies of failing to negotiate in good faith because the companies have balked at paying the county’s $12.1-million damage claim on the building.
Although the courthouse was red-tagged more than two years ago--shortly after the Northridge earthquake--the county and its insurers have been unable to agree on how much damage the quake caused and how much existed before the temblor.
In addition, the supervisors instructed the county’s chief administrative officer, Sally Reed, to file a complaint with the state insurance commissioner, and directed Reed and County Counsel De Witt Clinton to continue efforts to reach an agreement with the insurance companies.
