Department Selects Firefighter of Year
Don McPherson, a Ventura city firefighter since 1981, has been selected the 1996 Firefighter of the Year by the Ventura Fire Department.
McPherson, who also worked as a reserve firefighter for the department prior to being hired full time, was praised by colleagues for his work and contributions to the department.
“He’s a dedicated firefighter and he’s an outstanding employee,” said Battalion Chief Kevin Rennie. “He wrote a communications manual for the dispatch center that is excellent, and also worked on a drive certification program that teaches firefighters to drive fire apparatus.”
