Submissions Sought for Official City Motto

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — The Chamber of Commerce is seeking ideas from residents for an official city motto, to be voted on by the community in an upcoming citywide contest.
“I think we really do need a motto,” said Tom Facon, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce. “Most other cities have city mottoes.”
On Tuesday, the City Council expressed its support for the contest and is now actively working with the chamber to develop a plan for the project.
The chamber has suggested that a committee of community members choose five entries, which would be placed on a citywide ballot, perhaps in March, Facon said.
“We would like to have it decided by the citizens, not by someone in City Hall,” Facon said.
