Oscar Performance a Heady Experience in Reseda Victory
Oscar Sims’ goal in the 20th minute lifted the Reseda High boys’ soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Sylmar in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match Thursday at Reseda.
Sims scored on a 10-yard header after teammate Fred Schiffer’s throw-in into the Sylmar penalty area ricocheted off several players. The Regents (4-2-1, 3-2-1 in conference play) then stymied the Spartans (7-1-1, 5-1) in the second half.
In other Valley Pac-8 matches:
Monroe 2, Canoga Park 0--Alexis Boyadjian and Elmer Fernandez each scored a goal in the second half for the Vikings (4-2, 2-1) at Monroe.
Van Nuys 3, Poly 1--Ivan Cabello scored twice for the Wolves (2-3-4, 2-2-2) at home.
North Hollywood 4, Grant 0--David Harlow scored twice in the first half as the Huskies (2-2-1, 2-2-1) blanked the Lancers (8-3-3, 3-2-1) at North Hollywood.
Aaron Moreno stopped six shots for his second consecutive shutout.
Glendale 2, Arcadia 0--Vaagn Babayan scored in the 20th minute and Abel Abramyan scored in the 22nd of a Pacific League match at Glendale as the Dynamiters (12-2, 2-0) won their sixth consecutive match.
Joseph Agaverdyan stopped seven shots for Glendale.
Rio Mesa 2, Dos Pueblos 0--Nate Haros scored in the first half and Jaime Ambriz in the second for the visiting Spartans (8-4-2, 2-4) in a Channel League match.
Nick Pavlick stopped five shots for Rio Mesa.
Santa Paula 4, Calabasas 1--Oscar Crisosto scored three goals and Joe Hernandez added another as the Cardinals (13-2, 3-0) defeated the Coyotes (9-6, 2-1) in a Frontier League match at Calabasas.
Moorpark 3, Nordhoff 2--Orlando Orta scored three minutes into overtime to give the Musketeers (6-4-5, 1-2) a Frontier League victory at Nordhoff.
Moorpark trailed, 2-0, at halftime before Casey Groves scored in the 46th minute and Hugo Ramirez scored in the 56th.
Two Nordhoff and three Moorpark players were ejected after a second-half brawl. The match continued with Nordhoff using 10 players and Moorpark nine.
