Chaminade Sweeper Thiele Makes Soccer Coaches’ All-American Team
Chaminade senior sweeper Vanessa Thiele, currently sidelined with a knee injury, has been named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches’ Assn. of America.
Thiele, last season’s Mission League player of the year, helped the Eagles to their first league title and has committed to the University of San Diego.

Chaminade forward Amanda Horn will not play for the remainder of the season after suffering two ligament tears in her right knee in Monday’s victory over Alemany.
Horn is the Eagles’ third senior starter to be lost with an injured right knee this season.
Baseball
Ryan McGuire, former All-City Section first baseman at El Camino Real High, was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Montreal Expos on Wednesday as part of a five-player deal.
McGuire, who played at UCLA, went to Montreal along with left-handed pitcher Rheal Cormier and relief pitcher Shayne Bennett in exchange for infielder Wil Cordero and relief pitcher Brian Eversgerd.
McGuire was Boston’s third-round pick in 1993 and batted .333 last season at Double-A Trenton.
Softball

Basketball
Cal State Northridge center Kevin Taylor said he might be ready to return to action next week.
Taylor has missed all but four games with an injured right knee and he probably be eligible for a medical redshirt if he does not play again this season.
The Matadors have 12 games left in the season.

Doug Semones, a former assistant coach at Crespi High, has been hired as the special teams coach for the University of Hawaii.
