PARK PLACE: The city of Ventura is adding another tennis court at Camino Real Park, along with a clubhouse and restrooms (B1). . . . The park offers lots besides tennis--it has softball diamonds, playgrounds and, for three months a year, thousands of monarch butterflies. . . . The butterflies usually arrive in November to spend winter in eucalyptus trees bordering the park.
SURFER DUDE: Lawrence Manson will stay cool even if his “Baywatch” debut ends up on the cutting-room floor. . . . Manson is a history teacher at Ventura College and a member of the Surfrider Foundation, a coastal protection group. When “Baywatch” producers asked surfers to take part in an episode, slated to air at 5 p.m. today on KCOP Channel 13, Manson was one of about 25 to turn out. . . . “People all over the world are going to see the Surfrider name and logo,” says Manson, 51, “and we’re--as we say in the surfer lingo--stoked about that.”
HEALTH DRIVE: Out for a cruise today? Stop by the Medical Arts Building in Simi Valley for a free flu shot without leaving your car. . . . The drive-through shots will be available at 2950 N. Sycamore Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants must be 18 or older.
