CFL Teams Call About Walters
Suspended USC tailback Shawn Walters was again a hot topic of conversation Friday among Canadian Football League executives.
USC offensive coordinator Mike Riley, a former CFL head coach (Winnipeg, 1987-1990), said he fielded calls Friday from four CFL teams, wanting information on the availability of the junior tailback, suspended Sept. 28 for improper contact with an agent.
Riley wouldn’t identify the teams, but it’s known Ottawa, Edmonton and Saskatchewan are interested in the 240-pound tailback.
It was believed Saskatchewan wound up Friday with negotiating rights to Walters. General Manager Al Ford told The Times: “Negotiating rights are confidential, but that’s a distinct possibility. He is someone our scouting department has identified as someone we are definitely interested in.”
