Runaway Truck Hits 4 Parked Vehicles
SIMI VALLEY — An unoccupied dump truck crashed into four parked vehicles in the 5600 block of Maricopa Drive in Simi Valley on Friday after the driver failed to apply the parking brake and turn the wheels into the curb to prevent it from rolling.
The truck was loaded with about six tons of gravel and was too heavy for the driver to stop once he saw the vehicle begin to roll.
Abraham Martinez, the owner of A.N.M. Construction, tried to jump onto the rapidly accelerating truck. He was unable to hang on and fell to the ground, suffering a sprained angle and cut to his head. A.N.M. Construction had rented the truck to do work at the corner of Maricopa Drive and Chippewa Avenue.
Sheriff’s deputies did not have a damage estimate.
