Youth Held Over Fatal Shooting

SYLMAR — Los Angeles police Tuesday arrested an alleged gang member from Sylmar on suspicion of shooting a man to death after a traffic dispute last month.
Foothill Division detectives would not release the suspect’s name or age because he is a juvenile.
The youth was arrested for the Sept. 3 killing of 18-year-old Jesus Obeso of North Hills, police said. Although police said Obeso was not a known gang member, he was riding in the back of a car with gang members when he was shot in the head.
Police said the gunfire came from a dark-colored minivan that pulled up beside the car Obeso was riding in near the Sylmar intersection of Gladstone Avenue and Hubbard Street early in the morning.
“Apparently it was a dispute between drivers,” said LAPD Detective Frank Bishop, who added that no further arrests in the case are expected.
