Man, 36, Jailed After Machete Attack
A Ventura man who allegedly attacked an acquaintance with a machete after she refused his sexual advances was in jail Sunday and the woman was in stable condition in a Ventura hospital.
William Shogren, 36, was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon and assault with intent to commit rape in the alleged attack on a 34-year-old Ventura woman. His bond was set at $100,000.
Between 3:30 and 6 p.m. Saturday, Shogren invited the woman inside his apartment and then attacked her, hitting her with his fists and trying to remove her clothes, police said. She resisted his advances and tried to leave.
Shogren then attacked her with a machete, police said. The woman suffered a severe cut through the center of her hand and began bleeding profusely. Shogren contacted a neighbor for help, and they took her to Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura. She was later transferred to Ventura County Medical Center for surgery.
Hospital officials notified police of the incident.
