ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREP EXTRA : Montgomery Out as Troy Loses to La Serna, 29-13

FULLERTON — The shoes looked good. The dark blue jeans were neat. But the outfit looked inappropriate on Larry Montgomery, especially on a game night.
Montgomery wasn’t auditioning for a commercial.
The Troy running back had to watch from the sidelines as his team lost to Whittier La Serna, 29-13, Friday night at Fullerton High.
Montgomery injured his left knee last week in Troy’s 32-16 loss to Granada Hills Kennedy.
The Warriors (1-2) went 69 yards in 15 plays with Kyion Grayes scoring from four yards.
Troy’s next three possessions in the first half totaled 10 plays.
“We started with an all sophomore backfield,” Troy Coach John Turek said. “We are very green and very inexperienced.”
But sophomore running backs Adrian Vargas and Chris Butters showed promise.
Vargas gained 97 yards in 12 carries and scored on a 46-yard run. Butters added 67 yards in 17 carries.
But it couldn’t match the 181 yards Montgomery produced in the first two games.
