THE PREPS : NOTES : Edison’s Perez Shows No Signs of Injury
John Perez, injured in Edison’s 13-7 loss Friday to Capistrano Valley, suffered no severe damage to his neck or spine, a hospital spokeswoman said late Friday night.
Doctors at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo examined Perez’s neck and back. X-rays were negative and Perez was released before midnight.
Perez, Edison’s quarterback, lay motionless for several minutes at Capistrano Valley High as paramedics were called. The game was delayed 14 minutes before he was removed from the field.

Dave Demarest, who coached La Quinta to its second consecutive Southern Section Division III baseball championship in June, has been named District 8 coach of the year by the American Baseball Coaches Assn., La Quinta Athletic Director Jim Perry said.
