Simi Valley 38, Granada Hills 17--Jason May scored four touchdowns and gained 184 yards in 16 carries as the Pioneers (1-1) defeated the Highlanders (0-2) at Granada Hills.
May scored on runs of 26, 35, 28 and 25 yards. His last two touchdowns came in the second half, allowing Simi Valley to pull away after being tied 17-17 at the half.
Robert Gonzalez, who played quarterback for Simi Valley in the first half and switched to receiver in the second half, caught an eight-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter from Brad Norris.
Granada Hills quarterback Ricky Mathiesen, a sophomore, completed 14 of 23 for 177 yards and two touchdowns--both to senior Ernest Quinley, who finished with eight catches for 146 yards.
