French police investigating a spate of bomb attacks detained 12 people in fresh swoops on suspected Muslim fundamentalist hide-outs, officials said. The dawn raids targeted areas of Paris and Lyon already searched by police in the past few days in their hunt for guerrillas of the Armed Islamic Group, as well as the sleepy Alpine town of Briancon on the Italian border. Authorities believe that the bombings are linked to civil strife in Algeria.
