Santiago, Senior
Football/Cornerback-kicker
Last season Santiago lost a couple of games because of missed extra points and field goals, so Coach Ben Haley made finding a kicker a priority. He scouted the soccer team and found Bautista, a midfielder. On Thursday night, Bautista’s first point-after attempt failed after a low snap, but nothing else went wrong in the Cavaliers’ 15-12 victory over Magnolia. Bautista, 5 feet 5, 145 pounds, made the only field goal he attempted--a 36-yarder and intercepted three passes. His third interception with less than one minute left in the game saved the victory. “He has no fear,” Haley said. “He has absolutely no fear of anything.”
