Saturday’s Fair to Cover ABCs of Home Buying
Home buying, one of life’s most formidable decisions, can be much less intimidating if you approach it as a series of small steps. First, find the right agent, then the right neighborhood, the ideal house, the best loan and so on.
Mastering these basic steps is what we’ll help you learn Saturday at The Times’ Home Buyers Fair at the Burbank Airport Hilton Hotel & Convention Center, 2500 Hollywood Way, Burbank. The fair will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In just a few hours, five workshops will take fair-goers through the ABCs of home buying. The first panel, at 10 a.m., will teach buyers how to be savvy comparison shoppers. Two sessions on mortgages will follow with advice on credit, interest rates and qualifying for a loan. At 1:30 p.m., a one-hour workshop will focus on tax benefits and legal pitfalls of homeownership. And at 2:30 p.m. the final panel will look at crime, schools and commutes.
You’ll also be able to pull your credit report and learn how to clean up any dings, get pre-qualified for a loan, review home listings and shop for a mortgage.
On hand as exhibitors will be lenders, real estate agents, home builders, as well as consumer experts from the IRS, FHA, VA and the California Housing Finance Agency.
Admission is $5 a person, or $4 with a coupon from The Times. Children under 12 are free. For more details about the fair, please see the ad on K5.
