SANTA PAULA : Workshop on Citizenship Today
El Concilio del Condado de Ventura will host a workshop today in Santa Paula to help permanent U. S. residents become legal citizens.
Experts and trained volunteers will assist legal residents to become citizens by explaining the naturalization process and assisting with the required paperwork. Fingerprints and photographs will also be taken.
Applicants for citizenship must be permanent residents for at least five years or three if married to a U. S. citizen, at least 18 years old, basically knowledgeable of American history and government, able to hold a conversation in English, and able to fulfill the Immigration and Naturalization Service’s series of moral character requirements.
The INS requires a $95 fee for the citizenship application, and El Concilio asks for a $50 donation to help with its costs.
The workshop is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 431 N. Oak St., Santa Paula. For information, call 983-2336, Ext. 223.
