Mighty Duck right wing Todd Ewen accepted the Ducks’ offer of a one-year contract worth $478,500 on Thursday.
Ewen, who became the Ducks’ sole enforcer after Stu Grimson was traded to Detroit last season, had been a restricted free agent, but the Ducks had the right to match any offer.
The sides went to arbitration this summer after being unable to reach a new contract agreement following the 1993-94 season. Ewen sought $525,000, the team offered his previous salary of $385,000, and the award was $435,000--though pro-rated for the shortened 1995 season. The Ducks then secured the right to match any offer by offering Ewen a 10% raise over the award, but could have lowered the offer if he didn’t accept it by today.
