Sylmar : College Celebrates Latino Heritage Day
Lt. Gov. Gray Davis will be the keynote speaker at Mission College’s Latino Heritage Day celebration on Wednesday.
The free event will take place from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Sylmar campus, 13356 Eldridge Ave.
Latino Heritage Day marks the independence of 24 Central and South American countries, including Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru and Venezuela, according to Dean of Students Carlos Nava.
The event is sponsored by the Associated Student Organization, which last year sponsored a much smaller celebration.
Others scheduled to speak include Councilman Richard Alarcon and Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sylmar), Nava said.
Entertainment will be provided by a mariachi band. Crafts and food will be offered for sale.
