After a Long Search, CIF Hires Hayes as Executive Director

After months of searching and negotiating, the California Interscholastic Federation announced Wednesday that it had hired Jack Hayes as its new executive director.
Hayes, who most recently was superintendent of the West Sonoma County Union High School District, replaces Thomas Byrnes, who retired from the job that had been known as commissioner of athletics after 15 years.
The replacement process has been ongoing since Byrnes served notice that he would be retiring last December, and Hayes was interviewed in San Francisco in August along with two other finalists. Hayes, who has been in education since his 1960 graduation from the University of San Francisco, will be only the sixth CIF head since its inception in 1914.
