One of the suspects in the Oklahoma City bombing case used cans of soup to demonstrate how to build a bomb of mass destruction, a local newspaper reported. Quoting anonymous sources, the Daily Oklahoman reported that witness Lori Fortier told the federal grand jury on Aug. 8 that Timothy J. McVeigh arranged the soup cans in the form of a triangle on the kitchen floor of her Arizona trailer. She said McVeigh was demonstrating how the force of an explosion could be directed for greater effect, according to the report. Lori Fortier is the wife of McVeigh’s former Army buddy, Michael Fortier, who pleaded guilty Aug. 10 to charges of gunrunning and having prior knowledge of the bomb.
