MINEOLA, N.Y. — A team of bird thieves hit four Long Island pet stores, feathering their nest with about $10,000 worth of rare parrots. The shoplifters took two sulfur-crested cockatoos, a baby blue Amazon parrot, two African grays and two Mexican redheads. All the stolen birds had leg bands and implanted microchips, which are required for identifying exotic birds.
