Dionne Warwick, “From the Vaults,” Ichiban. ** 1/2

There’s a tendency to think of Warwick’s music from the ‘60s almost exclusively in terms of the Bacharach-David hits, starting with “Anyone Who Had a Heart” and “Walk on By” in 1963. This 24-song package showcases other tracks from Warwick’s first five Scepter albums, many of them songs written and/or produced by Bacharach-David. It’s an interesting but only partially fulfilling collection. Despite the wonders of her hits, Warwick comes across in these tracks as more a strongly professional singer than a captivating one.--R.H.
