Miami Ballet Stage Credit

I would like to respond to Althea Bussert, whose letter to the editor appeared under the headline “Credit Where Credit Due” on July 29.
The staging Ms. Borne performed for “The Four Temperaments,” as Repetiteur, along with myself, was more than two years ago. In the interim, Miami City Ballet’s level of sophistication in this work has gone beyond its initial development. Further, the company has many new dancers who have joined Miami City Ballet since Ms. Borne’s departure.
We do not minimize the contribution made by Ms. Borne in the past; however, the credit for the current staging given to Eve Lawson is more appropriate. Ms. Lawson, Miami City Ballet’s Ballet mistress since Ms. Borne’s departure in 1994, has been designated as the Repetiteur of “The Four Temperaments” by the George Balanchine Trust under the terms of our current license. Therefore, in order to give credit where it is due, Ms. Lawson’s work must be acknowledged in the program credits.
