MOORPARK / SIMI VALLEY : Advisory Issued Due to Unhealthful Air

A health advisory is in effect today for residents of Simi Valley and Moorpark because of high ozone levels expected by the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District.
County officials said temperatures in Simi Valley should soar to 95 degrees, creating extremely unhealthful air quality conditions.
On the pollution standard index, a reading of 100 or more indicates poor air quality. If levels go above 131, officials declare a health advisory. The projected pollution standard index for Simi Valley today is 135.
Officials warn residents to avoid all strenuous exercise, including jogging, soccer and even swimming laps.
Anyone with chronic lung disease or asthmatic conditions should stay inside, officials said. Residents are also asked to avoid unnecessary driving because automobile pollution drives the index higher.
Fillmore, Piru, Ojai, Santa Paula and Thousand Oaks are all expected to have temperatures in the 90s today, but officials said pollution standard indexes for those communities will probably not exceed 105.
