DANA POINT : Recall Signature Goal Reached, Group Says
A group pushing for the recall of City Council members Karen Lloreda and Harold R. Kaufman said they have collected enough signatures to put the issue on a special ballot.
CHANGE--Citizens Help Against Non-representative Government and Excesses--has about 4,000 signatures on each of two petitions, one targeting Lloreda and the other Kaufman, said Jack Roberts, a member of the group.
A recall vote requires 3,600 valid signatures from registered voters, City Clerk Kathy Hollywood said.
The group has 60 days to turn over the petitions to the city clerk but will file them earlier, Roberts said. If enough signatures are validated, a special election will be called.
CHANGE members say they want to recall Lloreda, who is serving as mayor, and Kaufman, the mayor pro tem, because they have repeatedly ignored the will of the people.
