SoCal Will Meet ORCA for Water Polo Title
Jordan Hewko and Colin Shaughnessy each scored three goals as SoCal A beat SoCal B, 13-3, in a semifinal match at the Junior Olympic water polo championships Thursday in Orlando, Fla.
SoCal, based in Tustin, meets Orange Regional Competition Aquatics in the final Saturday. Joey Pacelli scored three goals as ORCA beat Costa Mesa, 11-3, in the other semifinal.
SoCal’s 13-and-under team also advanced to the final with a 15-4 victory over Cerritos. Nick Pacelli, Joey’s brother, had five goals in the victory. SoCal, going for its fifth consecutive championship, takes on Commerce in the final Saturday.
In the 17-and-under division: SoCal beat Stanford, 12-3, and Santa Barbara, 11-3, to reach the semifinals.
Brian Heifferon had four goals and Jeff Pflueger added three in the victory over Stanford.

George Wunder, an assistant men’s basketball coach at UC Irvine, has accepted a similar position with San Francisco State. Wunder was an assistant at UCI during the 1994-95 season and a graduate assistant from 1991-94.
