Woodland Hills : Runner Raises Funds for Disabled Skiers

A ski school instructor who will run in the upcoming Mammoth Mountain Half Marathon is accepting pledges on behalf of Pierce College’s Adaptive Ski School for the disabled.
The money collected by Karen Minter will be used for transportation to ski areas, guides for disabled skiers and special equipment. Last year, Minter raised more than $1,000 in pledges for the ski school when she ran in the New York City Marathon.
“It makes you want to hit that finish line,” said Minter, 32, of Canoga Park, who attends Pierce. “It gets me across a lot quicker.”
Started in 1974, the ski school has taught many community members to ski, including those who are blind or deaf, have had amputations or are disabled by birth defects, paralysis or cerebral palsy.
