First American Title Keeps No. 2 U.S. Rank, Raises Share

First American Title Insurance Co. of Santa Ana maintained its rank last year as the nation’s second-largest title insurer and increased its market share, according to the American Land Title Assn.
Statistics recently released by the industry association show First American held 19.5% of the national market in 1994, up from 19.2% in 1993. Chicago Title and Trust held the largest market share for both years.
The industry survey also shows First American has the largest or second largest share of the title insurance market in 33 states and the District of Columbia. In California, First American finished first in 1994, laying claim to 24.3% of the market, the statistics show.
The company, which expanded nationwide in 1982, offers its title services through a network of more than 300 offices and 4,000 agents throughout the United States. It also provides title services abroad in the Bahama Islands, Bermuda, Canada, Guam, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom.
