The first incorporated bank in Orange County was founded in Anaheim.
Hiram Mabury, the leading stockholder of the Commercial Bank of Los Angeles, wanted to create a chain of financial institutions from Los Angeles to San Diego.
Enlisting the partnership of Anaheim business
people, Mabury opened the Bank of Anaheim in 1876 at 108 W. Center St. (now Lincoln Boulevard) with $20,000 in capital.
By 1879, the bank had 154 depositors and was lending money at an 18% interest rate.
Today
Parents coping with curious teens can attend a free lecture at the Newport Beach Central Library.
“Parenting Adolescents--Can Parents Win?” will teach parents to guide their children through such issues as sex, birth control and protection against sexually transmitted diseases.
Dr. Adele Hoffman, director of adolescent medicine at UCI Medical Center, will speak at noon in the Friends Meeting Room.
