Teachers: Pair Earn Fellowships

Two Venice High school teachers have received fellowships from the Council for Basic Education in Washington.
Science teacher Frederick H. Siegel and English teacher John Kwan were named Sci-Mat Fellows for Independent Study in the Humanities. Siegel and Kwan will receive $4,900 to work as a team for six weeks this summer on a project linking environmental issues through science and literature.
Siegel and Kwan were among 84 high school teachers across the nation chosen for the program. The selection was based on proposed study plans and proven teaching excellence.
The Sci-Mat program is funded by the National Science Foundation.
