Teen Virtuoso to Play on Restored Wurlitzer
Sean Henderson, winner of the 1995 American Theatre Organ Society’s Young Organist Competition, will be featured in concert at 2 p.m. today in Fullerton.
The 16-year-old New Zealand native performs classical pieces, orchestral transcriptions, jazz, ragtime, ballads and show tunes. He is appearing at the invitation of the Orange County Theatre Organ Society and the Fullerton Joint Union High School District.
Henderson will perform at Plummer Auditorium on a restored Wurlitzer theater pipe organ that made its concert premiere in 1930 but was rarely played in public because of design limitations.
In 1992, the school district hired Trousdale Organ Co. to upgrade the Wurlitzer electronically. After the yearlong contract ended, company owner Bob Trousdale and a team of helpers have continued restoring and enhancing the organ on a volunteer basis.
General admission tickets for the concert are $8 for those 13 or older, and free for those 12 or younger. Plummer Auditorium is at 210 E. Chapman Ave. at Lemon Street.
