Thurlow Rogers of Van Nuys and the Nutra-Fig bicycle racing team finished fourth in the U.S. National Championships in Seattle.

Track and Field
The Antelope Valley College Board of Trustees has approved a plan to resurface the school’s aging track and infield runways with a rubberized, all-weather surface for the 1996 season.
Due to the worn and unsafe conditions of the 400-meter track, the Marauders have not played host to meets for the past four years.
“In terms of recruiting, I think this will be a big boost to the program,” said Mark Covert, Antelope Valley track and cross-country coach.
“The local [high school athletes] will actually be able to see us compete. We’ll no longer be an invisible team out here.”
Covert said Antelope Valley will play host to four track meets next season, including the Foothill Conference preliminaries and finals.
Amy Van Atta of Buena High, fourth-place finisher in the 1994 Ventura County cross-country championships, will attend Cal Lutheran in the fall.
Van Atta had personal bests of 5 minutes 12.45 seconds in the 1,600 meters and 2:22.33 in the 800 with the Bulldogs.
