CRENSHAW : Center Plans Salute to African Culture
The African American Cultural Center and the community organization Us are hosting a celebration Monday commemorating the 33rd annual African Liberation Day.
The event includes poetry readings, music and vendors displaying a variety of African arts, books, clothing and other expressions of African-based culture.
Speakers at the event are to include center founder and Cal State Long Beach professor Maulana Karenga, Ugandan national Assumpta Acam-Oturu, Cal State Long Beach student council President Carl Kemp, Kisha Mason from the Agape International Center and Ahvay Muhammad from the Nation of Islam.
The celebration is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. at the center, 2560 W. 54th St. Admission is free. Information: (213) 299-6124.
