PREP NOTES : Garden Grove Set to Face Alhambra Keppel in Final

Garden Grove’s badminton team, which lost to Alhambra Keppel in the Southern Section final last season, will again face the Aztecs in the Division I title match 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Cypress College.
In the Division II final, also at 2:30 p.m. at Cypress, top-seeded Katella will meet Lakewood, a team the Knights defeated, 10-9, this season.
Third-seeded Garden Grove (16-1) is led by Judy Pak, The Times Orange County girl player of the year in 1994. Katella (19-0) is paced by Ying Chansawangpuvana, who won the section’s individual girls’ singles title this season.

Dave (Doc) Colville, boys’ tennis coach at Villa Park High the last two seasons, is retiring after 35 years of coaching, he said Wednesday.
The Spartans finished second in the Century League this season and reached the Southern Section Division II quarterfinals.
Colville also has coached football, track and basketball in his 31-year career at Villa Park, where he teaches history and drivers education.
A resident of Dana Point, Colville said he hopes to serve as a walk-on assistant football coach for a South County school this fall.
