LOS ANGELES : Police Call Death of Woman, 85, a Homicide
The death of an 85-year-old Athens-area woman found in her home by a neighbor was determined to be a homicide, a police spokesman said Wednesday.
Phyllis Bassi’s body was discovered in the 10300 block of South Harvard Boulevard about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Detective Larry Kallestad of the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Bureau homicide office.
A neighbor, who had not seen the woman since Sunday, found Bassi’s front door ajar and went in to investigate, Kallestad said.
At first, detectives were not sure if Bassi had been killed or had had an accident. But an autopsy revealed that she died as a result of blunt-force head injuries, Kallestad said.
