Trustees of the Fullerton School District have promoted Deputy Supt. Ron Cooper to the district’s top post.
Cooper, 52, will take over for retiring Supt. Duncan Johnson in July. He will be paid $94,911 annually.
At a school board meeting Tuesday, trustees and district employees said they were thrilled with Cooper’s appointment. Trustees voted unanimously to promote Cooper.
Cooper, who grew up in Fullerton, where he attended district schools, was hired by the district in 1964 as a Richman Elementary School teacher.
In 1970, he became Nicolas Junior School’s reading specialist. From 1975 to 1983, Cooper served as principal for Hermosa and Richman elementary schools. He became an assistant superintendent in 1984 and deputy superintendent in 1990.
