Section Golf Title Is Up for Grabs
For the first time in four years, there is no clear favorite to win the Southern Section individual golf tournament.
With Western’s Tiger Woods, who won three of the last four titles, at Stanford, it should be a wide-open competition today at Canyon Country Club in Palm Springs.
There are several returning players who have done well in this event.
Torrance senior Ted Oh won as a freshman in 1992 at Hacienda Golf Club in La Habra Heights. In 1993, Valencia senior John Lee finished in a tie for third on this course. Last year, Sunny Hills junior Terry Noe, the 1994 U.S. Junior Amateur champion, and Santa Barbara San Marcos sophomore Michael Chavez and Simi Valley Royal senior Anthony Marciano finished in a tie for second at La Cumbre in Santa Barbara.
