Phone Book Drive Will End Friday
Friday marks the final day that Ventura County residents can recycle old telephone books as part of their curbside recycling program.
Phone books may be placed in either residential recycling containers or in multifamily or commercial bins. Those who do not have curbside recycling may contact Pacific Bell at (800) 953-4400 for drop-off locations.
If all Americans recycled their old telephone books, about 650,000 tons of paper could be saved. Each ton of paper recycled saves 17 trees, according to the Ventura County Solid Waste Management Department. The books can be reprocessed into ceiling tiles, textbook covers, insulation or new telephone books.
