All those urban cowboys and cowgirls who want to push their tush or slap their leather will have to mosey on down to some other pasture. Woodland Hills’ Denim & Diamonds is no more.
Maybe it’s a sign of the times, but the nightspot’s parent company has decided the country music line dancing craze has run its route at the Ventura Boulevard club. So, there’s going to be a new name, new decor, and it’s back to classic rock ‘n’ roll.
XIT will be an upscale, modern dance club with recorded music of the 1970s and ‘80s, says general manager K. C. Smith. The target audience will be people in their late 20s to 40s--people with credit cards, Smith jokes.
The club will have a full bar and serve a limited menu consisting mostly of sandwiches. The place is currently undergoing some major renovations, but Smith says he expects a mid-May opening.

PIZZA, PIZZA
Yet another pizza is being thrown about in the West Valley.
Topanga Pizza & Cafe in Woodland Hills opened April 20. Owner Kazumi Kusakawa runs the show. Her husband, Nobu, is the chef.
Nobu Kusakawa says he has worked at Spago and was executive chef at Delmonico’s Seafood Grill. The Kusakawas, whose first Topanga Pizza was on Topanga Canyon Boulevard for four years, have moved to Ventura Boulevard. The old place was strictly takeout; the new location has an expanded menu, tables and free delivery within four miles.
In addition to traditional-style pizzas, Topanga Pizza will now offer gourmet pies, including one with shrimp, garlic, tomato, onion, mozzarella and fontina cheese. They also offer one with barbecued chicken, tomato, onion, parsley, mozzarella and smoked Gouda cheese. Both pizzas go for $5.25 to $14.85.
The restaurant’s selection also includes pasta with marinara sauce for $4.50; fettuccine chicken for $5.95 and lasagna for $6.25. Sub sandwiches ($4 to $5), salads ($2 to $6.75), calzones ($5.25 to $5.95), chicken dishes ($7.95) and appetizers ($1.50 to $4.75) are also offered.
Topanga Pizza & Cafe, 22994 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills. Hours: 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Minimum $8 order for delivery. (818) 222-4944.
WILD THING
Marek Bacik calls his establishment Wild Subs & Bagels, but it seems Bacik has carefully planned things for his new eatery. The brightly designed sandwich shop opened April 17 in Woodland Hills and offers a selection of sub sandwiches at just two prices: $3.50 for a seven-inch, $5 for an eleven-inch. Included are roast beef, hot corned beef, pastrami, meat loaf, tuna and assorted cold cuts. The eatery also offers bagel sandwiches, including lox and cream cheese, for $4.25, and turkey breast, for $3.50. Free delivery is available.
Figuring that his sandwich trade will attract a daytime crowd, Bacik, who previously worked as a manager for Pizza Hut and Domino’s, also plans to open the Wild Tea Room next door.
The Wild Tea Room will have comfortable seating and offer various teas, live entertainment and board games to attract an evening crowd. Bacik says it will be open the first week of May. Wild Subs & Bagels, 22854 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills. Hours: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. $10 minimum order for delivery. (818) 224-3218.
