If you want to get something done, sometimes you’ve got to do it yourself.
That’s what Saugus High right fielder Jill Passafiume must have been thinking when she drove in the winning run with two out in the seventh inning of a 3-2 victory over Hart on Monday in a Foothill League game at Saugus that broke a first-place tie.
After Jamie Gillies opened the seventh with a single, Passafiume stood and watched two teammates fail to advance pinch-runner Crystal Chulick, bringing up Nicole Giordano and putting Passafiume on deck with two out.
Giordano, who was three for four, hit a single to left to put runners on first and second. Up came Passafiume, who hit a sharp liner to right that scored Ridnor.
“I was just thinking, ‘Make contact and run,’ ” Passafiume said. Saugus (15-4, 5-0 in league play) broke on top, 2-0, in the first when Kelli Kranz was hit by a pitch and Chris Gill followed with a home run to left.
