Key America’s Cup Race Postponed

SAN DIEGO —  Team Dennis Conner’s bid for the defender’s berth in the America’s Cup series was postponed Sunday by light and shifting winds.

Conner’s Stars & Stripes was to have met PACT 95’s Young America, but the race was rescheduled for today. The race was 54 seconds from beginning at one point, but a wind shift caused a delay. It was finally postponed after nearly a two-hour wait.

To wrap up the defender’s position, Conner must defeat either Young America today or America 3’s Mighty Mary (if necessary) Tuesday. Should Stars & Stripes lose twice, Young America and Mighty Mary would meet in a Wednesday sail-off to decide the defender.
