GRANADA HILLS — Lightning struck power lines Tuesday afternoon, leaving 1,200 residents without power for 45 minutes, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
At 12:30 p.m., a bolt of lightning hit wires and an insulator near Lassen Street and Haskell Avenue, said DWP spokeswoman Darlene Battle, cutting off power to two separate areas of Granada Hills. One area was on Haskell between Lassen and Plummer Street; the other was bounded by Bradford Place, and Cascade Canyon, Sunderland and Westbury drives.
At the same time in San Fernando, lightning struck a San Fernando substation and cut power to 8,080 customers in that city for 40 minutes, according to a Southern California Edison spokeswoman.
