SANTA ANA — A 39-year-old man was fatally shot in the head Sunday after being confronted by two men at his Santa Ana apartment, police said.
Hector Narez was sitting with two friends on the second-floor balcony of his apartment in the 1000 block of South Minnie Street when two men approached them just after 2 a.m., Sgt. Anthony Levatino said.
One of the men pulled out a handgun and shot Narez in the head, Levatino said. The man fired several more shots at Narez’s friends, but no one else was injured.
The men, whom witnesses identified as gang members, fled on foot, Levatino said.
The motive for the shooting has not been determined, but the Santa Ana Police Department’s gang unit is investigating the incident.
