Soledad Echavarria Acevedo, a longtime Santa Paula resident, has died following a lengthy illness. She was 61.
Acevedo, who worked as a seamstress in the clothing manufacturing business for 30 years, died Monday at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital.
She was known as the matriarch and historian of her family, said her niece, Inez Burnham, also of Santa Paula.
“She was such a giving, warm person,” Burnham said. “You could never leave her house hungry. She always had something good to eat ready for you. We will all miss her terribly.”
A 20-year Santa Paula resident, Acevedo is survived by Burnham; three brothers, Jess and Sam Echavarria, both of Santa Paula, and Rito Echavarria of Pomona.
Other survivors include a daughter, Rosalie Compos of Whittier; two sons, David Garcia and Ruben Rodriquez, both of Santa Paula, several nieces and nephews and six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church in Santa Paula. Private interment will follow.
Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary of Santa Paula is handling the arrangements.
